Shopping in Guangzhou 

Guangzhou is a world commercial center, and a shopper's heaven. Guangzhou features all sorts of specialty streets, including the walking streets at Xiajiu Lu, Dishifu and Beijing Lu, where you can buy almost anything.  At Qingping Market, one can find literally all kinds of agricultural or medicinal products.  At Hualin street you can find all types of jade crafts.  At Xihu Road and the Huanghuagang Lantern Night Market you can find all types of decoration supplies.  At Wende North street is the antiques and curios market.  At the Haiyin Electronics market is the electrical appliances market.  And you can also find shoes along Daxin road, the food and dry goods at Yide road, and the ommunication electronics at Lingyuan West road.

Among Guangzhou's larger shopping centers are the Nanfang Mansions, Guangzhou Department Store, Guangzhou Wangfujing Department Store, Xin Da Xin, Dongshan Department Store, Nanda Tianmao Square, Dongjun Shopping Center, and Wankelong Shopping Center. Many supermarkets and 24-hour stores also make shopping in Guangzhou very convenient.

Guangzhou also has some reasonable department stores including the South Mansion Department Store that gets most of its stock direct from Hong Kong.

Night markets

Take full advantage of the open-air markets for Its low price and the fun of bargaining night markets scatter at Xihu Rd., Jiaoyu Rd., Huanghuagang, Xiaogang, Shahe, Shayuan, Shangxiajiu Commercial Pedestrian Street and BeiJing koad Commercial Pedestrian Street. All night markets open from dusk to midnight, selling daily articles, fashionable clothes and foods, etc. The night markets are not only quite convenient but also add color to Guangzhou night life.

Antique Market

Guangzhou has its antique market in the alleys off Daihe Lu. It's very informal and consists mostly of people peddling wares from their windows or the back of a truck. It can he very interesting, but be aware that few of these `antiques' are very old and many may be fake Still, it's good fun to explore.

Arts & Crafts

Brushes, paints and other art materials may be worth checking: a lot of this stuff is being imported by western countries, so you should be able to pick it up cheaper at the source. Scroll paintings are sold everywhere and are invariably expensive, partly because the material on which the paintings are done is expensive. There are many street artists in China who sit on the sidewalk making drawings and paintings on the spot and selling them to passers-by.
