» Guangzhou
raises standards on taxi, South China's Guangzhou is changing
rules on the expiration of the city's taxi, as it prepared for
the 2010 Asian Games.
Under
the new rules, all cars that have run over 500,000 kilometers
are required to exit the taxi market. This means each car will
only have a career life of about 3 years. In the past, the
city required that a taxi should expire when it has run
800,000 kilometers, or has been used for 8 years.
Officials
say the new regulation will have more impact on smaller taxi
companies, and say this will help optimize the market.
Currently, the city has more than 90 taxi companies.
