Guangzhou is one of the
major manufacturing bases of auto industry in China , and has great
development foundation and regional advantage.
In 1985, passenger car
manufacturing enterprise was founded in Guangzhou which has been listed
later as one of the key passenger car manufacturing bases in China . Since
1997, strategic structure was adjusted for Guangzhou 's auto industry,
which midwived successive incorporations of Guangzhou Honda Co., Ltd.,
Guangzhou Fengshen Motors Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Isuzu Bus Co. Ltd., and
Guangzhou Denway Bus Co., Ltd., as well as attracted investment from
almost 50 overseas auto components enterprises, including Shawa, Delphi ,
etc.
Since 2000, Guangzhou 's
auto output has been rising by 64% (averagely) each year and increase rate
of output value is about 50%. Last year, great-leap-forward development
has been achieved for Guangzhou Auto industry: three big Japanese assembly
plants have made their footholds in Guangzhou and the fourth biggest auto
base in China began to appear; the formation of eastern, northern, and
southern industrial bases of Guangzhou auto industry has symbolized that
the spatial layout of Guangzhou auto industry has been shaped; as the
three big assembly plants landed on Guangzhou, lots of Japanese-funded
component enterprises have also thronged here for investment, a sign that
the industrial chain of Guangzhou auto industry has been consummated
gradually. All of these have offered expansive space for development of
Guangzhou auto component industry.
Currently (2005), there
are three big industrial aggregates that have been formed preliminarily
for Guangzhou auto industry: Guangzhou Economic and Technological
Development District in the east represented by Guangzhou Honda, Huadu
District in the north represented by Dongfeng-Nissan, and Nansha
Development Zone in the south represented by Guangzhou Toyota.
